Started in 2002, the firm is located in metropolitan Washington, DC area and while a majority of its clients are in Baltimore/Washington/Northern Virginia, the office is accustomed to working on projects across the nation and abroad.
Symbiosis is a Maryland Woman-owned Minority/Disadvantaged Business Enterprise as well as a Minority/Small/Micro Business Enterprise in Virginia.
In 2015, the affiliated Symbiosis DC was established to better service clients in the District of Columbia.
Lanshing Hwang is the Principal of Symbiosis. A scientist by training, she is a passionate advocate for sustainable landscapes.
Before establishing Symbiosis in 2002, she worked with various design firms in the Washington/Baltimore metropolitan area is a believer of interdisciplinary collaboration. Her experience encompasses master planning, site landscape design and project management.
Her work covers a wide range of institutional, regional planning, ecotourism, and commercial landscapes ranging from less than an acre to 40 square miles. She is interested in bringing out the unique quality of landscapes that engage human activities by clear and distinct design.
