MCLEAN SCHOOL
Washington, DC
Landscape design for the K-12 school grounds. The landscape addresses site conditions and programmatic needs in a way that is unique to the school. More importantly, it describes the essence and teaching philosophy of the movement and journey from lower to upper grades. The lobby and immediate outdoor plaza are to identify the entry to school and incorporate the latest school safety design. The clearly marked diagonal walk takes students, staffs, and visitors directly to the entry. The regraded sloping bank along high school entry walk and bioretention area are planted lushly. Seating opportunities were integrated into diagonal walk. There are interior greenwalls at important transition areas among grades as focal feature and learning opportunities.
