SLIGO MILL OVERLOOK PLAYGROUND

Takoma Park, MD

Playscape design and site planning for this neighborhood playground as well as relocation of plots of existing community garden. It involved coordination among different user groups of the surrounding communities and various agencies with landownership and funding source. 

Play equipment locations were carefully worked out to protect mature trees.  The design encourages learning by observation.  Additional bright colored whimsical shade structures were incorporated for visual interest and dappled shade.  The problematic existing ground spring water seepage was intercepted and redirected to the bioretention area near the playground entrance.  The rich and showy plantings in the bioretention area adds to the play experience.
