This project entails facility planning and landscape design for the 65-acre Day Use Area of the over 3,600 acre regional park in Montgomery County, MD. It is the entry to this vast park. Its location provides an overview opportunity to the natural and cultural understandings of the area. The concept plan features the cultural landscape that is the evidence for long years of cultivation adapted to the Clarksburg area landscape and is beloved for characteristic features that distinguishing the upper Montgomery County.

 

Activities for the Day Use Area are nature based and largely unstructured. Program elements include picnic areas, meadow habitats, native plant education areas, group camp fire ring, amphitheater, adventure playground and trails. A small visitor building called “the Underlook” with interpretive focus is proposed.

 

The site plan concept attempts to protect the contiguous meadow and areas of biodiversity while providing the required recreational program and interpretation opportunities for visitors. The Facility Plan was approved by the Planning Board on October 6, 2011 and awarded by American Society of Landscape Architects Potomac Chapter in May, 2012.
